The procedures to address the ongoing sterilization issues at Windsor Regional Hospital are changing once again.
President and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital David Musyj says the hospital is no longer receiving help from Steripro, a Toronto company that had been contracted to pick up surgical tools twice daily and take them to its Toronto facility for sterilization. This costly procedure was instituted after the sterilization equipment at the Ouellette campus caused scorching on cloths used to wrap surgical instruments, forcing the hospital to take the precautionary measure of cancelling hundreds of surgeries.
Contracting the Toronto company was a so-called plan B to allow surgeries to resume during the investigation into the cause of the scorching. But now, Met campus and Leamington District Memorial Hospital are sterilizing instruments for the Ouellette campus of Windsor Regional.
International sterilization experts remain on site. Musyj says officials are consulting with other hospitals across North America that have faced similar issues.
