Windsor police say they have received numerous complaints about people receiving fake emails claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Fraud investigators say in the email, they claim that you have a refund and to follow the link to a fraudulent website where they ask for personal information.

They are also calling people and claiming to be from the CRA and asking for personal and financial information.

Police say to be aware that they can mask a phone number to make it look like they are calling from an official phone number. Always try to verify by making the call yourself.

The CRA only contacts the public through written correspondence through the mail. If you are suspicious of anything or anyone call the taxation office at 1-800-267-6999 for more information.

More information about the latest fraud is also available to the CRA official website: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ntcs/bwr-eng.html
