Windsor police are reassuring the citizens of the Rose City in light of the shooting situation in Ottawa.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed that there is "no imminent threat to public safety" in the Windsor-Essex region. The statement comes hours after the shooting death of a Canadian military officer on Parliament Hill.

“The Windsor Police Service will remain vigilant in providing safety to our community.  Our number one mandate has always been, and remains to be, the safety of our citizens.  We will ensure proper deployment of our resources to ensure community safety,” the statement reads.

Chief Al Frederick and Mayor Eddie Francis are asking the public to remain watchful and to report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities.

The Integrated Terrorism Assessment Centre has determined that the terrorist threat to Canada has increased from low to medium, due to the country’s involvement in joint operations against ISIS.
