A 14-year member of the Windsor Police Service is facing theft charges after an internal investigation.

The officer was arrested and released on a promise to appear.

The pending charges are theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, and two counts of uttering a forged document.

Police say the charges stem from an incident involving found property that was turned over to police.

The investigation was carried out as soon as the police service was made aware of the allegation. The officer was arrested within hours of learning his identity, according to police.

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay. The name is being withheld, pending the laying of the information in court.
