Windsor police are happy with a report outlining the use of force by officers last year.

There were 233 incidents out of 101,924 service calls in 2014 where Windsor police officers were required to use force, according to a report released on Thursday.

That’s up from 192 incidents in 2013, but the number of service calls also increased. The force to call ratio stayed the same at .2 per cent.

Chief Al Frederick says he is very pleased with the results. Frederick says 20 public complaints represents only 0.0002 per cent of 1 per cent of calls of service have resulted in a complaint from a resident.

Frederick says you are never going to eliminate public complaints of the use of force, but he doesn't think he'll see any better than the recent report.

Taser use was more than double the previous year – 57 in 2014, compared to 21 in 2013. Police say this is because all front line patrol officers now carry this force option.

The use of a pointed firearm was up to 149 from 126. Police say the rationale is that there were more incidents involving weapons.

The report was released at the police board meeting on Thursday.
