The Windsor police bicycle registry is now open to residents and commuters.

Police hope the registry will help protect bicycles owned by people in the city and the surrounding area, especially citizens that commute to Windsor by bicycle.

Officers say the program will increase the chances of having your bicycle returned to you if it is lost or stolen.

Hundreds of stolen and abandoned bicycles are recovered by local police every year. Police say the main reason is because people don't report them stolen and/or they don't record serial numbers and other important identifiers.
