Only about half a dozen people showed up to a parks improvement meeting at Forest Glade Arena on Tuesday night.

The executive director of parks says the informal series of meetings in different wards is meant to seek public input to improve the 2,800 acres of city green space.

John Miceli says he’s hearing citizens ask for more trail systems. “We've heard a lot of community input in regards to trails. They all like our new playgrounds, our handicap accessible playgrounds and council has approved an allotment of money to do that.”

Despite a small turnout the Ward 7 Councillor says the input is needed to draft a new future plan.

Irek Kuysmierczyk says the plan hasn’t been update since 1989. ” We're getting a lot of feedback that we have dog parks in the area, that we also have accessible parks for seniors is another issue, and also, getting outdoor exercise equipment for adults.”

The next meeting is planned at the Serbian Centre on February 25th.

Wards 9 and 10 are scheduled to have meetings in March.

The plan is expected to be finalized by 2016, as officials analyze suggestions and seek more public comment.
