TORONTO - Heavily armed police and emergency task force officers stormed residences and apartment complexes across the Toronto area Wednesday in a series of pre-dawn raids targeting drugs and guns.

Toronto police say they executed more than 50 search warrants across the city, including parts of the downtown core, the west end and the north end.

The raids -- part of what police have dubbed Projects RX and Battery -- began around 5 a.m.

Brantford and Windsor police officers were seen assisting Toronto police and provincial police were also involved.

There's no word yet on charges or on how many people have been arrested.

However, several people were arrested at a downtown community housing complex (near Queen Street East and Shuter Street) where residents say police deployed sound grenades in raids at two units.
