A Windsor man is now facing several charges including attempted murder after a vehicle crashed into the front porch of a home on Hickory Avenue.

Windsor emergency services had to extricate the 28-year-old man, who was taken to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

He was first arrested under impaired driving suspicions and is now facing charges of attempted murder, dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, assault, theft of a motor vehicle and breach of probation.

Police say both major crime and domestic violence units are investigating. Witnesses have alleged the driver assaulted his common-law wife, who escaped from the vehicle and was followed by the driver.

Police say she has facial injuries from an earlier assault.

Police also say neighbours assisted by putting out a fire that started in the engine area of the Ford F150 pickup truck involved.
