Windsor homeowners might have a chance to buy an alley for $100.

The city is looking at selling alleyways that no longer serve a municipal purpose, specifically some of the grassy ones. The option would be available to abutting property owners.

There are about 150 kilometres of alleys in Windsor.

The proposed budget for the pilot project is $100,000 a year. The city report says about four to five alleys could be closed each year for that amount.

The two-year project would start in 2014. Council still needs to approve the initiative.
