A 31-year-old Windsor gymnastics coach is facing abduction and luring charges after he allegedly developed a relationship with a 12-year-old Amherstburg girl.

Amherstburg police say Carson Miles Dickie communicated in person and through text messages for the past several months. He allegedly went to the girl’s school several times and she left with him without her parent’s knowledge.

At 4 a.m. on Friday, after the girl was reported missing, Dickie was stopped in Amherstburg and arrested. He was apparently a short distance from the girl’s location while she waited for him to pick her up.

Winstars Gymnastics director Carey Vigneux told CTV News Dickie was a coach there, but he has been terminated.

“Winstars Gymnastics takes this matter very seriously and the police are continuing with their investigation,” said Vigneux in an email to CTV. “After being informed by the police, the employee was immediately terminated. Winstars and all of its staff are currently cooperating and will continue to cooperate with this police investigation.”

Dickie has been charged with abduction of a person under 14, luring a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of abduction, luring a person under the age of 14 for the purpose of invitation to sexual touching and invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age.

He is in custody waiting for a bail hearing.
