A Windsor family is speaking out after a teenager was struck by a car late Halloween night.

Police called the hit-and-run an attempted murder.

With the suspects still at large, the mother of the victim is looking for answers and help.

Just days ago, Lawrence Davis was lying in his hospital bed, not sure what landed him there.

“He doesn't understand. Why me?” says his mom Diane Scott.

The 17-year-old, known to friends as "Teddy" was walking with friends early Sunday morning near Pillette and Ontario Street when police say they came across a 21-year-old man being assaulted by a group of men.

Teddy came to the man's aid and that's when, according to investigators, the group of men turned on him.

“It was three to four guys, I still don't know,” says Scott. “They retaliated on him, beat him up, dragged him across the street and got in the car and ran over him."

Davis was rushed to hospital, still breathing but in bad shape.

"Like you never want that to happen, he was full of blood,” says Scott. “Police were taking pictures, took all his clothes. When I got here is head was all swollen."

On Thursday, Davis is in hospital, with a long recovery ahead. He suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis, a concussion and severe road rash.

“He's lucky, he's going to have some scarring on his face, but it could have been much, much worse," says Scott.

In what Scott calls a miraculous turn, her son is walking down the hospital halls with the help of nurses.

Police say they still don't have any suspects at this time.

The family's focus is shifting to finding the people who did this.

“I want to find out who was driving that car,” says Scott. “I'm appealing to the public because nobody's speaking to the police and I know sometimes they put up reward money, but nobody wants to speak to the police.”
