It’s an unusual sight, even for a Canadian, to see an igloo this far south, but a Windsor family is getting a lot of attention after building one in their front yard.

It took approximately four days for the Nicolitti family to build an authentic igloo in Canada’s most southern city. Hundreds of people have already stopped to see the snow structure located in the 2500 block of Pillette Road. The family built the igloo as part of their 25-year-old son’s bucket list.

Brian Nicolitti, a student in St. Catharines, is an aspiring motivational speaker, who suffered from a heart condition at a young age. Ever since, he wanted to live life to the fullest. That’s why he compiled a bucket list, containing such tasks as skydiving, running a full marathon, spending New Year’s Eve in New York City, and of course, building an igloo.

Thus, Nicolotti and his family utilized Windsor’s uncharacteristically large quantity of snow, to build the 112 sq. foot igloo. The base of the structure alone consists of 27 rectangular blocks, weighing 50lbs each. Inside, the family has placed chairs, and even a small fire pit.

With rain in the forecast, the family is hoping to keep the structure from melting away, so Nicolitti can finish the building the roof of the igloo.
