Haze has descended upon Windsor and Essex County as temperatures soar.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has issued a level one heat alert for Wednesday.

It is declared whenever Environment Canada forecasts a humidex value above 40 C. The area was also under a heat alert on Tuesday.

The forecaster says relief is on the way as a cold front will cross the region Wednesday afternoon and usher in a cooler and drier air mass for the next few days.

Extremely hot weather and humidity can be dangerous for outdoor workers, people who are exercising, children, seniors and pets. Health officials urge people to drink plenty of water, stay inside with air conditioning and try to spend as little time as possible outdoors.
