The public elementary teachers union’s latest decision to continue the pause on extracurriculars is nothing more than an illegal strike action, according to officials from the Greater Essex County District School Board.

Director of education Warren Kennedy says he’s ‘disappointed and frustrated’ with the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario.

He says ETFO locally and provincially is being irresponsible to its members because it could result in job layoffs if students go to a different board.

They are already in the process of changing their policies around parental coaches. Right now a parent coach has to be with a staff member. They are looking at removing that rule.

He says he doesn’t want to take extracurriculars away from teachers, but the board will do what it has to so that students get the best possible educational experience.
