A Windsor councillor is fed up with the crime happening in his ward.

Ward 1 councillor Drew Dilkens posted a photo online of a teenager trying to get away after allegedly throwing eggs at cars.

It's a growing problem in the area. Shattered egg shells were littered across the Grand Marais ditch, one even hit the car driven by Dilken’s wife.

"She has a picture of one of the kids, the kids left their bikes and ran away," says Dilkens.

Dilkens took to social media, posting a photo of one of the teens believed to be involved.

“If you recognize this south Windsor youth, call his parents and ask them what he was up to last night. Hint: a little graffiti, some marijuana and throwing eggs at cars," he wrote in the Facebook post.

Dilkens says perhaps someone knows who these kids' parents are.

“The ultimate goal is to have parents talk to their children and say this isn't good, you could have hurt someone here," he says.

But this ‘bad’ behaviour isn't new to the ward. For years Dilkens says the ditch has always been a crime of opportunity.

"It feeds into some of the problems that we're having,” says Dilkens. “We find that there's more criminal or mischief type of activity going on."

Residents living in Ward 1 agree, often seeing the ditch covered in garbage and graffiti and teenagers doing drugs.

"It doesn't surprise me that there will be that kind of thing, with teenagers, it's the kind of crowd you get," says resident Jordan Charles.

Adding to the problem, at the request of residents, council agreed to have portions near the fence left in a naturalized state, allowing people to hop the fence or hide behind the bushes.

"To some extent it's been very nice, it's peaceful, it creates a forest like setting,” says Dilkens. “At the same time it can also cause problems that we didn't contemplate."

Dilkens says he'll meet with the parks department to put a plan in place to deter criminals from causing mischief.
