The downtown Windsor BIA held an emergency meeting late Wednesday afternoon, to deal with safety issues in the wake of a weekend murder.

Several downtown stakeholders were in attendance for the meeting, hoping to come up with ideas to improve safety after the bars let out. The meeting was not open to the public, but did included Windsor police Chief Al Frederick, local business owners and representatives from the University of Windsor.

Frederick tells CTV News, he will be looking at scheduling and deployment plans, in an effort to make police more visible in the downtown.

Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis did not attend, but Councillor Fulvio Valentinis was in the audience.

"We can do a lot better,” says DWBIA Chair Larry Horwitz. “The downtown has the possibility to be a great downtown.”
