A suspect sought in a break and enter in Windsor has been arrested by Chatham-Kent OPP.

Windsor police were called to a home in the 700 block of Argyle Rd. around 7:20 a.m. on Sunday for a report of a break-in.

A resident had reportedly been awakened by noises and chased a suspect down the stairs and out the rear door.

He told police a laptop computer had been taken, along with several other items including his wife's purse.

Officers, including the K9 Unit, attended and attempted to locate the suspect but were unable to find him.

Then around 8:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent OPP were investigating an incident of erratic driver on Highway 401 eastbound near Queens Line.

The vehicle was stopped near Harwich Rd., but while the officer was speaking to the driver, the vehicle sped away, nearly striking the officer then crossing the median and heading westbound before exiting at Communication Rd. and striking a guardrail.

The driver then reportedly fled the vehicle, but was located at a nearby residence with the assistance of the K9 Unit.

It was discovered the vehicle had been stolen from the home in Windsor, as the keys to the vehicle were in the stolen purse.

A 21-year-old suspect from Windsor was arrested and is facing charges including:

  • possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood
  • driving while ability impaired
  • fail to comply with recognizance

Police say the investigation continues.
