There’s positive news for Chrysler’s Windsor Assembly Plant, as the facility has been awarded silver designation for World Class Manufacturing – a first in North America.

In a news release Friday, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced the silver designation. It was awarded following a three day audit that examined 10 technical and 10 managerial pillars of the WCM.

“Accomplishing silver is a significant achievement as it demonstrates a deeper understanding of the WCM methodology,” said Mauro Pino, VP and head of manufacturing/WCM, for Chrysler. “We couldn’t be more proud of our Windsor employees who embraced the opportunity to lead the way for our other facilities.”

WCM was introduced in all Chrysler plants by Fiat back in 2009. The methodology focuses on reducing waste, increasing productivity, and improving safety.

“Together with our Unifor partners, the Windsor plant is showing its commitment to making our manufacturing facilities among the best in the world,” said Pino.

Since its implementation in 2009, WCM has saved the company more than $1-billion.
