A new multi-million dollar pool will be installed at the WFCU Centre.

In a marathon session Monday night, Windsor city council voted in-favour of purchasing the $6.5 million pool. It comes just weeks before council becomes lame duck.

Current councillor and mayoral candidate Drew Dilkens says it's an investment in a community.

"We're able to do this without increasing taxes… doing it in a fiscally responsible way,” he says. “We're adding amenities to a community that's deficient, and enhancing the quality of life, and that's what you want in any modern, progressive city."

However, the pool also comes with an operating cost estimated at $700,000 per year. Councillor Alan Halberstadt says the next council is going to be hard press to find the funding.

"The next council has already been set up to freeze taxes, so where are they going to find the operations money?"

City council also voted in-favour of separated bike lanes along Cabana Road. The $4.3 million project will stretch along Cabana from Walker Road to Northway Avenue.

The decision will also see the road widened and a half-metre buffer between cyclists and motorists.
