Ovo

An awe-inspiring world of insects is taking over the WFCU Centre.  The Cirque du Soleil show Ovo kicked off on Wednesday and has six more shows until Sunday, full of with aerial acrobatics and high-flying stunts. Organizers say the performance is very family friendly and is about two unlikely members of the bug community, one carries an egg or ovo (in Portuguese) on his back. There are tickets at www.cirquedusoleil.com or wfcu-centre.com, starting at $41.75 for adults and $27.75 for children.

Canada Day

Windsor’s Canada Day parade will once again set off at 11 a.m. at Devonshire Road, parading down Wyandotte Street East, ending at Glengarry. Don't forget to bring canned goods for area food banks.

The party doesn't stop after the parade. There will be a cake cutting at Riverfront Festival Plaza at 1p.m. Cirque du Soleil has special live riverfront performances.

For newcomers to Canada, Adventure Bay holds a citizenship ceremony. The aquatic park is also offering a Canada Day discount on admission.

Our nation's birthday will also be celebrated at Fort Malden. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the U.S. army giving back the fort to the British, with a re-enactment ceremony at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

You can catch a fireworks display in Amherstburg at 10 p.m.

There are more free family activities in Tecumseh's Lakewood Park. You can see clowns, special performances and demonstrations between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the corner of Manning Road and Riverside Drive.  Everyone is encouraged to wear red and white.

Redfoo

Party Rockers rejoice. Redfoo is heading to Windsor this Canada Day long weekend. The “Sexy and I Know It” singer is bringing his party rock crew to the Olde Walkerville Theatre on Saturday night for the Mix 96.7 Summer ’16 Bash. He’ll be playing his greatest hits, and new material from his latest album 'Party Rock Mansion.' Tickets are available online now for $30 or $40 at the door.  

Danny Brooks

Danny Brooks is kicking off a new Windsor concert series, On Roots, which will showcase performances by touring folk and roots musicians.  Known as the Texassippi Soul Man, Brooks is expected to put on a soulful performance on Sunday afternoon at the Sho Art, Spirit and Performance Space on Monmouth Road.

Detroit Concerts

A big weekend for concerts across the border.  Sting and Peter Gabriel are hitting up the Palace of Auburn Hills as part of their Rock, Paper Scissors tour.  The 80’s rockers are fresh off a performance in Toronto last night.

Another retro group, Styx, is taking the stage at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights, Mich, on Friday.

Nelly and Keyshia Cole are performing at the Chene Park Amphitheater along the Detroit River, also on Friday.

On Saturday, Uncle Kracker and Josh Gracin, will be at Freedom Hill Amphitheatre.

And Country music sensation, Zac Brown Band, will be at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich.
