A Windsor built vehicle is being phased out of production.

Volkswagen is pulling the plug on its minivan model, the Routan, made at the Windsor Assembly Plant since it was introduced in 2008.

Company spokesman, Mark Gillies, says Volkswagen has been pleased with the arrangement it has had with Chrysler to build the vehicle, but the model has run its course.

Gillies says production may cease at the end of this model year or 2014, when the contract with Chrysler expires, as Volkswagen works on an exit strategy.

University of Windsor Auto Analyst Tony Faria doesn’t believe the decision will have an impact on the three shifts at the minivan plant.
