A University of Windsor nursing student has been crowned Miss Canada for 2014.

Priya Madaan, who grew up in Windsor, wants to use her new position to start a campaign that “ensures low income and at risk youth have financial support and the opportunity to graduate high school and pursue higher education.”

The 18-year-old says she has volunteered with the Canadian World Education Foundation, a non-profit which helps underprivileged children have a proper education.

The title of Miss Canada is awarded by judges who are impressed with a candidates devotion to a cause.
