A new product may be on the way for one of Windsor’s Ford engine plants.

Unifor has entered preliminary talks with the automaker, as the union tries to secure a new investment for the Rose City.

“It’s not secret we’ve been actively seeking an investment from Ford for our Windsor operation since the 2012 bargaining,” says Unifor local 200 leader Chris Taylor.

A letter was signed during those talks that required Ford to offer any incremental North American engine production to their Windsor operations. Unifor confirms to CTV News that their talks with the company involve a smaller sized engine.

“Ford has been extremely pleased with our operation. We hope there to be something in the pipeline, but at this point were still going through the whole process,” Taylor says.

Taylor says it would take a commitment from the federal and provincial government to make this investment happen.
