Early Thursday morning Uber Canada announced that the ride-sharing service will be available in Windsor by 3 p.m.

Windsor, Kingston, and the Niagara region will be added to the list of 350 communities around the world where Uber is available.

The company says that the first two rides for new users will be free up to $20 each until Sunday.

The launch of Uber in Windsor comes a week after the company held an information night for potential drivers in the city.

Mayor Drew Dilkens has asked city administration to find ways to amend current by-laws so that businesses like Uber could operate.

Uber has been controversial in other cities, sparking protests from taxi drivers.

The union representing drivers for a Windsor cab company will meet with the city's mayor next week to talk about Uber.
