The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says two mosquito pools in Windsor have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Certain types of mosquitoes spread the virus and the two positive mosquito pools in the city indicate that it is present throughout the region.

The first positive pool was found in Essex County on June 24.

Health unit officials say these positive mosquito pools are a reminder for Windsor-Essex County residents to continue to protect themselves.

Residents are urged to eliminate any standing water around their home/property and take personal protective measures to avoid mosquito bites.

The health unit has not received any reports of a human case of West NIle.
