A father and son duo are lucky to be alive after falling through the ice on Lake Erie near Kingsville.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, the men were towing a shanty, with the intent to do some ice fishing when their snow machine went through the ice approximately 2 km south of the Kingsville Dock.

Fortunately, they had a cell phone and were able to call for help as their machine was partially submerged.

Kingsville OPP along with Kingsville Fire and Rescue could not find the men due to visibility.

The U.S. Coast Guard subsequently located the men and they were airlifted back to shore.

Both men were treated at the scene by paramedics, and taken to an area hospital with minor signs of hypothermia.

The men were wearing the appropriate life saving gear.

The snow machine and shanty remain semi-submerged in the ice and will be retrieved in the near future..

No names will be released.
