Some major funding has been secured for two major University of Windsor projects, but the news comes as the school’s board of governors approved a tuition hike.

At Tuesday’s board of governors meeting, a proposed tuition fee increase was approved. It mean’s students attending the university in the fall will face a four-year increase, capped at three per cent.  A maximum increase for professional students – those in business, engineering and law – will be at five per cent.

The interior of the university’s innovation centre will be completed by the fall with the approval of a $4.1 million budget.

At the same time the board passed a motion that will send $32.6 million for the redevelopment of the Windsor Armouries. The university also released artist renderings of what the renovations will look like once complete.

The redevelopment of the property will preserve the exterior façade of the armouries, while creating studios, classrooms and a 140-seat performance hall for the school of music, visual arts and new film production programs.

Classes are scheduled to start at the armouries in the fall of 2016.

The university says the tuition increase is not a result of funding being allotted for these projects.
