It’s been two years since tow truck driver Paul Rocheleau lost his life on Highway 3 while changing a flat tire on the side of the road.

He was struck and killed by a passing motorist.

Rocheleau’s brother, also a truck operator, has a message on the back of his truck.

It reads, “Slow down. Move over for tow trucks and service vehicles, just because it saves lives. Not because it's law, because it will save lives."

Francois Rocheleau says it’s hard to carry on without his brother.

"He's a really great soul. We all miss him a lot."

Rocheleau says he remembers the memorial for his brother vividly.

"It was something else to see all those tow truck drive come together to say good-bye to a really great man."

Other operators say they have had close calls.

"I've had to dive underneath my truck,” says Nelson Jenkins.

"I was hooking up the chains, looping them in to hold the vehicle in. A car comes flying out and I duck underneath the back of the tow truck. The mirror on the other car was close to the side of the deck of the truck. Now if I was standing (there) I would have been smoked."

Tow truck drivers want it to be mandatory for people to slow down while passing a tow truck, the same way the must for police and other emergency vehicles.

"If possible, go completely in the other lane. Slow down because if I happen to fall off the side of the truck, I could fall right into the lane they are driving in," he says.
