A union representative says a third noose has been found at the Windsor Assembly Plant amid allegations of racial harassment.

Rob Petroni, business manager for LIUNA Local 625, says a third noose was found Monday night.

“Last night the worker was not in the area, but it happened for the third time,” says Petroni.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada and Windsor police are investigating a complaint of racial harassment after a worker alleges that a rope in the shape of a noose was tied on to a cart he was using at the plant.

The plant is currently on shut down, but many contractors are still on the premises, working on retooling.

Police were first dispatched to the plant in the 2100 block of Chrysler Centre for a report of harassment on Friday at about 8:30p.m.

Officers were met by the complainant who works for a construction company subcontracted by the plant while it is being retooled. Police were also met by union leaders and representatives from FCA.

The complainant alleged that the incident occurred on Thursday at some point while he was working his afternoon shift. He stated that he located a rope tied into the shape of a noose on a portable cart that he was using.

“We went into lockdown mode,” says Petroni. “We spoke to the entire workforce, both union and management, explained to them that it is unacceptable and a serious offence.”

Petroni says another noose was then found on Friday.

FCA Canada officials responded in a statement on Monday, saying “We are currently working in cooperation with local authorities to investigate a recent allegation of workplace harassment made at our plant."

Company officials say they are taking the matter very seriously and will investigate in a timely manner.

"Our employees found in violation of this policy are subject to discipline up to and including termination."

Officials have launched an internal investigation into the incident. Police say they are working with FCA and union leaders to determine who is responsible for leaving the rope.
