Windsor is under a level 1 heat alert today as the sweltering weather continues.

The Windsor-Essex Health Unit issued the alert, cautioning residents to stay cool.

Environment Canada says temperatures are expected to reach 31 C, with a 40 per cent chance of showers this afternoon.

Police are asking people to ensure kids and pets are not left in hot cars.

A heat warning also remains in effect for north and southeastern Ontario today.

Environment Canada says hot temperatures will begin to ease in western Ontario as the day goes on, but it will be another hot one for much of the province.

They say the temperatures should begin to ease across the province by Thursday, except for the Toronto region.
