Windsor police say the man responsible for robbing five Subway Restaurants has been arrested out of town.

The suspect, a 27-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, was apprehended Wednesday in Toronto.

In the past month, five Subway Restaurants have been robbed from across the city, including three in one day. In each instance, police say the suspect walked into the sub shops and demanded money from the till. A weapon was never seen.

Police are thanking the public for taking to social media and sharing the image of the suspect across the Internet. Investigators say this directly led officials to identifying and arresting the suspect.

Windsor Staff Sgt. Todd Cox says Facebook and Twitter helped lead to the arrest.

"As a result of some tips we received through social media, we were able to identify the individual responsible for the five subway robberies."

He said that police received a tip about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, saying the suspect was on a Greyhound bus heading to Toronto. Officer there were notified and the man was arrested when he arrived.

One Subway manager was encouraged by the news but another, Kelly Jones, says she'll believe it when the robberies have stopped.

"I have my reservations but if he's caught that's all great because it mean we'll all be a lot safer and the owners don't have to worry about their stores being robbed."
