Contract talks between employees and the management of the Canadian Blood Services in Ontario are set to resume on January 5th.
But the union representing the 800 workers has set a January 8th strike deadline should the negotiations fail.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says concessions sought by management would pose a serious risk to the safety of the blood supply.
It says management wants to lay off skilled health-care professionals and replace them with lower-paid employees.
