Ste. Anne Catholic church in Tecumseh has received a $1.25-million matching pledge towards renovations.

Church officials say local philanthropist, Alan Quesnel, has pledged the matching donation.

Last month, the church announced that an anonymous donor made a commitment to match up to $1.25 million in funds, setting a deadline that was later extended to Nov. 30, 2016.

In addition to Quesnel’s pledge, so far 63 donors have come forward, totaling $389, 650 in pledges.

“We are indeed astounded by this generous commitment because we can now look forward with great confidence to help us to complete the restoration work to the remaining 3 walls of the Church, as well as the Chapel,” said Father Eugene Roy, pastor of Ste. Anne.

Ste. Anne church was founded as a mission in 1857 and completed in 1874.
