St. Clair College in Windsor had a special surprise for a Brampton girl who just won $15,000 on the ‘Ellen’ show.

The college offered Leah Borneman a $2,500 tuition scholarship, a $2,500 residence scholarship and a trip to experience the school’s Christmas production in December.

The 18-year-old hopes to take musical theatre performance at the school.

“I’ve actually had some friends of mine who have gone to that program,” says Borneman, who was very thankful and emotional when she found out on CTV’s Canada AM Thursday morning.

Ann Hetherington, St. Clair’s director of marketing, says she couldn’t believe her ears when she heard Wednesday that Borneman wanted to attend the college. She says she immediately went to the college president to see what they could do.

“There really was no hesitation,” says Hetherington. ”When something like this happens and a student comes to our attention who is working very hard to fulfill their dream and come to college, we like to see if we can help.”

Borneman responded to a call on DeGeneres' website asking for Canadian fans to write in to the show. She wrote to the TV host, telling DeGeneres that she first started watching the show with her grandmother.

Borneman won the money while she was at work at a grocery store in Brampton. She was asked a series of trivia questions as part of the show's "Cash at Your Store" segment, and won $15,000 to go towards post-secondary education.
