Bob Jones is leaving the Windsor Spitfires bench to join the Oshawa Generals as head coach.

Generals Owner Rocco Tullio introduced Jones at a press conference in Oshawa Wednesday morning.

Jones has spent the last eight years with the Windsor Spitfires, where he won two Memorial Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010 as an associate coach.

“It’s an exciting time to open a new chapter for the Oshawa Generals and having Bob Jones as the head coach is a real instrumental piece of writing that chapter,” says Oshawa GM Roger Hunt. “There aren’t many people that know the OHL inside and out like Bob does.”

Jones has been in the OHL for 20 years as an associate coach with Windsor, Sudbury, Brampton and Toronto.

“We scoured various leagues to find the right guy and someone that will be able to take the team over from D.J. Smith, and we feel the best man for the job is Bob Jones,” says Hunt.

Former head coach D.J Smith left the Generals to become assistant coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jones will make his head coaching debut with the Generals in September.
