Former NHLer Trevor Letowski is the new associate coach of the Windsor Spitfires.

Letowski, 38, played 13 professional seasons, including 616 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes.

He spent the last five years coaching the Sarnia Sting. The last two years he was the club's head coach.

"Working in the league, I've always had a lot of respect for the organization. For what Bob (Boughner) and Warren have built,” said Letowski. “Then being in Windsor last week and talking to the guys and the rest of the ownership group, I just had a really good feeling about it all.”

Letowski joins newly-hired head coach Rocky Thompson and assistant coach Jerrod Smith behind the Spitfire bench.

“I saw first-hand what he did with a young Sarnia team last year,” said Spitfires GM Warren Rychel in a news release. “There were no easy games there and his club was always well prepared. After sitting with him, we were really impressed.”
