Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of southwestern Ontario with snow headed for the region over the weekend.

Areas east of Georgian Bay were already seeing snow on Friday afternoon, and while the forecast isn't calling for much accumulation, heavy flurries and blowing snow could reduce visibility Friday night.

Grey-Bruce and Central Ontario are expected to be hardest hit, with significant snow Saturday into Sunday morning, totalling five to 15 centimetres.

Areas from Sarnia to Goderich and Windsor to London can expect rain or wet snow starting Saturday morning and accumulations from two to five centimetres by Saturday evening and continued flurries.

The forecaster says there is still uncertainty about "the intensity and track of the system" and meteorologists will continue to monitor the situation.
