Windsor and Essex County residents woke up to falling snow Wednesday morning, causing messy conditions on the roads throughout the region.

OPP officers were busy responding to numerous crashes around Essex County.

Police say a 37-year-old Chatham woman was travelling westbound on County Rd 42 near Elmstead Road in Lakeshore, when she lost control and collided with a tree.

The driver and a female passenger were trapped in the vehicle. They were extricated by the Lakeshore Fire and Rescue crews using the Jaws of Life to cut the vehicle open.

Both women were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The road was closed for about an hour.

The E.C. Row Expressway was also very slow going Wednesday morning because of poor visibility and snowy conditions.

Environment Canada predicts about two to four centimetres of snow throughout the day with a high of -2 Celsius.

The periods of light snow are expected to end late this evening, but there’s still a 40 per cent chance of flurries.
