Air quality across the region is much improved, according to the latest data.

The Chatham-Kent Health Unit has released a report which suggests the air quality in southwestern Ontario has improved.

Since 1994, health officials say smog-causing emissions is down by 40 per cent.

Industry has done its part.

Regulations throughout Canada that combat poor air quality have helped, but in recent years the area has also lost a lot of the heavy industry that used to provide jobs.

“Looking at our local emissions we can do better on public transit, mass transit and all modes of transportation - so cycling, walking, making things closer to where people work and live so they can walk. And it's all about how we organize in terms of urban sprawl,” says Derek Coronado, of Citizens Environmental Alliance.
