A Windsor family collected hundreds of sleeping bags to help keep the homeless warm this winter.

It was part of the Share the Warmth campaign in memory of Matt Rawlings, who died in 2012.

After his death, his parents discovered his bucket list, which included helping the homeless. His family delivered the sleeping bags to Street Help on Tuesday. It would have been Matt’s 21st birthday.

“I woke up this morning, thinking how good of a day this is going to be to donate all these bags and help so many people,” says his mom Joy Rawlings. “And then on the other hand, I'm thinking of the day my son was born and how cute he was.”

Street Help executive director Christine Wilson-Furlonger says because of this donation, anyone who needs a sleeping bag this winter will get one on Wyandotte Street East.

The campaign received sleeping bag donations from all 10 provinces and some as far away as Australia.
