Essex is one step closer to revitalizing its downtown core as the town's most iconic towers are slowly being demolished.

The Essex Centre silos beside the train station are coming down with help from a large crane.

Four small silos came down last week and crews started on the second of four large ones Thursday morning.

The Essex Memorial Spitfire Committee says the silos had been used as a land mark for many years by pilots out of Windsor Airport.

The land will be cleaned up and used for our new passive park with the old train tracks overhauled for trails to be connected to the large county wide trails.
