If you have an unwanted iPod, iPhone or iPad lying around, residents at one Leamington retirement home say they want them.

Specialists trying to gather the donated items for their patients say the benefits of music for the elderly can be substantial.

Sun Parlor Home is hoping to collect 206 digital music players - one or each resident.

So far 20 ipods, iphones and even an ipad have been donated.

"They would be invaluable to our residents,” says manager Sharon Beggs.

Beggs says every memory we have in life is associated with music.

“Whether it be your wedding song, your first dance with your first boyfriend - every memory has music attached to it and that is stored in the brain,” says Beggs. “When that music comes back the memory comes with it. So even though they might have dementia, those memories will come back with the music."
