A Sarnia taxi driver is recovering in hospital after police say a woman attacked the man with a knife.

Sarnia police report that on Monday just before 6 p.m. a taxi driver picked up a customer in the area of Wellington Street and Christina Street.

The female customer told the driver she was going to an address on Blackwell Road, but once they arrived, the woman redirected the driver with new directions.

Police say at one point the taxi came to a stop and the woman suddenly attacked the driver with a knife – slicing at the driver’s throat. The attack continued and the driver was able to get out of the cab where police say the attack continued.

Investigators say the woman then grabbed the keys from the driver and got into the taxi and fled the area. A citizen driving by stopped and assisted the driver and called 911.

Police received a call regarding a suspicious person in the area of Mandaumin Side Road and Rokeby Line. The woman was located by police and arrested without incident.

The male taxi driver required surgery for injuries to his neck and hands

A 21-year-old Sarnia woman is charged with attempt murder, aggravated assault, theft and drive while disqualified. She is being held pending a bail hearing.
