Chatham-Kent police were called to the scene of a fatal single-vehicle collision west of Chatham early Monday morning.

Const. Renee Cowell says, "Very sad. A very young man to lose his life here today...the pickup truck did sustain significant damage as a result of the collision."

Officials say that shortly after 7 a.m. a vehicle travelling southbound on Winter Line Road near Pain Court Line lost control and crashed into a ditch.

Cowell says the Traffic Unit and a forensic identification officer on scene were, "looking at the roadway for debris and anything that will help them assist with the reconstruction of the collision."

A 22-year-old man from Dover Township died as a result of the crash. His name is not being released. There was no one else in the pickup.

Cowell adds, "We'll definitely be appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the pickup truck that was travelling on Winter Line Road shortly before the collision occurred."

Police closed the road for an investigation, but the area was re-opened to traffic around 2 p.m.

This is only the second fatal crash on municipally patrolled roadways in Chatham-Kent.
