After a hectic day on area roads, things are beginning to return to normal as OPP reopened Highway 401 between Windsor and Tilbury Wednesday night

Essex and Chatham-Kent OPP issued rotating closures along the stretch of highway, as blowing and drifting snow caused whiteout conditions most of Wednesday.  While the snow has stopped falling for several hours, OPP are still responding to several collisions.

A jackknifed tractor trailer is slowing traffic on Highway 401 east of County Road 42. The highway remains open, but traffic is reduced to one lane.

Slick icy roads are also causing minor collisions in both the city and county.

Windsor police responded to over 50 collisions, Wednesday, while Chatham-Kent authorities responded to over a 100 collision related calls.

OPP are reminding motorists to remain vigilant on roadways and to give yourself extra time for your commute.
