The RCMP is joining forces with Neighbourhood Watch Windsor for an information session on how to handle counterfeit goods.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. at The Safety Village in Windsor, Cpl. Anne Garneau with the RCMP will offer insight on how to spot a fake amongst legitimate purchases.

"We have some items that have been seized in the past, and she'll be able to show you exactly whether it's hang tags, misspellings on backs of movies, she'll be able to show you what makes them counterfeit," says Cpl. Annette Bernardon of the Windsor RCMP detachment.

Garneau will explain the laws surrounding counterfeit goods and illegal tobacco, by providing a hands-on presentation with items they have seized through several of their investigations.

"You'll be allowed to touch things like ball caps, and movies where there's no French-English writing and it's only English and Chinese, and there's spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and it makes no sense," says Bernardon.

Members of the Windsor Police Service will also be on-hand to answer questions from homeowners and residents.

The meeting runs until 8 p.m.
