Contract talks have resumed between the province and the only teachers' union still without a negotiated settlement.

Negotiations got under way amid an escalating job action by the union representing 76,000 public elementary school teachers.

Members of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario are currently refusing to answer emails from administrators unless they concern student safety, update classroom websites or hold parent-teacher interviews unless there is a concern about a child's progress.

The union says agreements already negotiated with Catholic teachers and public high school teachers don't fit its members and has threatened to start one-day strikes later this month if a tentative deal has not been reached.
