The provincial government is giving Essex County municipalities about $5 million in funding to build and repair critical infrastructure and create jobs across the province.

Amherstburg will receive up to $2 million to reconstruct sections of Texas Road and install bike lanes and sidewalks.

Essex is getting up to $1.6 million toward the completion of the reconstruction of road repairs and replacement of a 50-year-old water main.

Kingsville will receive up to $1.1 million to replace and upgrade an existing storm sewer and install backflow valves.

Leamington is promised up to $360,000 to replace and widen Bridge 8 to make it safer for heavy goods traffic.

Also part of the funding, Chatham-Kent is getting $2 million to rehabilitate the Parry Bridge, which will bring the structure up to current standards.

“Roads, bridges and water infrastructure are essential to rural communities across the province,” said agriculture minister Jeff Leal. “By partnering with communities and investing in these projects, our government is committed to ensuring municipalities have the tools they need to build and maintain critical infrastructure.”

The province has approved 78 projects through the application-based component of the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
