A 27-year-old Windsor man has been charged after he allegedly hit a cyclist while driving on Pelissier Street and took off.

Windsor police say it happened on Oct. 26 at about 12:40 a.m. in the 700 block of Pelissier Street.

The 31-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance with skull fractures. At the time of the accident, his injuries were considered to be life threatening.

With assistance from video evidence, social media and the public, officers say the suspect was identified. Investigators learned he had a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and shared the information with police agencies throughout the province.

Toronto Police arrested the suspect and seized the suspect vehicle, a grey 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, on Nov. 27. They were taken back to Windsor.

The vehicle was sealed and stored at Windsor police headquarters pending the application and execution of a search warrant.

After obtaining the warrant, police searched the Cherokee on Dec. 18. Officers say recent repairs to the front right corner of the vehicle are consistent with the vehicle being involved in an accident.

Mithona Koy, 27, of Windsor is charged with failure to stop at scene of accident involving bodily harm.

He will appear in court Jan. 7, 2015.
